Curriculum Vitae

A native speaker of Arabic, Gehane Shehata was raised in Cairo, Egypt, where she obtained her Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Ain Shams University and worked for several years on urban projects. After her move to the U.S. she pursued her interest in languages; she obtained her M.A. in French from the University of Toledo (2003) and her Ph.D. in French from Emory University (2012). Beside her work on 19th and 20th century French literature, she has a strong interest in language and literature teaching as well as in cross-cultural influences and their role in shaping identities. She is looking forward to sharing her deep and strong knowledge of Arabic language, literature and culture with her students.
