Directed Readings

MESAS evaluates all requests for directed readings and approves those that it considers of substantial academic/intellectual merit.

Students who wish to pursue a directed reading at either the undergraduate (497R) or graduate (797R) level must follow a three-step application process:

  1. Consult with the professor with whom you plan to work and complete the Student Directed Reading Request form.
  2. Have the professor with whom you plan to work complete the Faculty Support for Student Directed Reading Request form.
  3. Submit both forms together to the MESAS Office, Callaway Center S-312.

Applications should be submitted no later than the Monday of the final week of the Add/Drop/Swap period. MESAS will notify students of the Committee's decision before the end of Add/Drop/Swap. MESAS will automatically enroll students whose applications are approved.

For questions, please contact the MESAS Office.
