Robert Phillips received a BA in History from Davidson College and an MA and PhD in Languages and Cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His dissertation was titled "Garden of Endless Blossoms: Urdu
Ramayans of the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Century." Before joining Emory in 2008, Robert was Lecturer in Hindi-Urdu Language and Literature at North Carolina State University (2007) and taught Urdu at the South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) (2003-06) and in the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2004). His teaching and research interests include South Asian literary culture, translation studies, and Hindi-Urdu language pedagogy.
